Volunteer at Don Som Project
Are you interested in volunteering here? Do you like to be active, get dirty hands, be creative and help children to develop themselves on an island in the Mekong river in a beautiful setting?

How can you help?
We welcome people from all backgrounds, as long as you are open-minded, motivated and respectful of local life.
Volunteer Tasks
As a volunteer, you’ll take part in the daily life of the Don Som Project and support the team in different ways:
- Organize creative, artistic, sports or ecological activities for children aged 5 to 18 years old
- Practice English with them through play, conversation, and everyday interaction
- Help with the daily life of the center - gardening, cooking, cleaning, small repairs or maintenance
- Support communication by taking photos, creating content or helping with social media
- Share your culture, ideas and good energy with the kids and the local community
Be active, show initiative and wake up early to avoid the heat a bit.
Schedule
Mornings are dedicated to cleaning, gardening, and preparing activities for the children. The center is open Tuesday to Friday from 15:30 to 18:30, and Saturday and Sunday all day (with a break in the afternoon).
Days off: every Monday and every second Tuesday of your stay.
Requirements
- Minimum stay: 10 nights (however, we prefer volunteers to stay here longer, for the sake of project continuity)
- English: you’ll need a good level of spoken English to communicate with the You’ll be independent during your stay, but we’ll be there if you need help.
- Be autonomous, responsible, and adaptable to simple village life
- Respect is essential, towards the community, the children, and other volunteers etc.
- Please avoid smoking, drinking, or showing affection in front of the kids, they look up to volunteers as
- No teaching experience required, enthusiasm and kindness are what matter most
Daily life on Don Som
We starten vroeg in de ochtend om de tropische hitte voor te zijn. De middagen en weekenden staan in het teken van de kinderen, met vaste vrije dagen om het prachtige eiland en Laos te ontdekken.
Dagindeling en vrije tijd
De ochtenden zijn gereserveerd voor tuinieren, schoonmaken en het voorbereiden van de lessen. Het centrum opent van dinsdag tot en met vrijdag tussen 15:30 en 18:30 uur. Op zaterdag en zondag zijn we de hele dag actief, met een welverdiende pauze in de middag. Je hebt elke maandag en elke tweede dinsdag vrij om op te laden.
